Different types of poker
Poker is a card game that has been around since the eighteenth century and over the yeas a large number of variants have evolved. The most popular forms of online casino gaming poker tend to be Texas Hold’em and Omaha, but it is not unusual to find examples of much older versions still being played online.
Looking at the fundamentals of the game, it can be broken down into four basic formats. These are straight poker, stud poker, draw poker and flop poker (or community card poker).
In all of these games the same poker rankings are used to determine the strongest hand. In most cases it is the strongest hand that wins, but in certain sub-variants, such as Omaha Hi-Lo, the lowest hand can also win.
Straight Poker involves dealing a single hand to all of the players. No additional cards are taken and none are discarded. Players simply bet on their cards and the person who does not fold and has the best hand wins. Often this game is played with only three card hands.
Stud Poker involves dealing a sequential combination of face down and face up cards. There are several rounds of betting and a betting round follows each deal. One of the most popular forms of this is seven card stud. Each player receives three cards, two face down and one face up. There is a betting round then another face up card is dealt followed by a betting round. This is twice repeated and then the final (seventh) card is dealt face down and there is the final betting round before remaining players show their cards.
Draw Poker involves dealing a complete hand to each player but then each player is permitted to exchange a number of their cards (by discarding some and being re-dealt the same number) in an attempt to improve their hands. There is a betting round after the first deal and another after the players have exchanged their cards.
Community card or flop poker includes Texas Hold’em and Omaha. Here every player has a combination of their own card and the flop, (shared cards that are dealt face up on the table) to make their best hand of five cards. A betting round follows the initial deal of personal cards (two in Hold’em and four in Omaha), the flop (three cards face up) the turn (next face-up card) and the river (the final face-up card).

Baccarat is a traditional casino game and it is extremely popular all over the world. These can pay vary high returns, for instance a tie of twos can pay out at 225 to 1, though the probability of it happening is only 0.004.
It is a baccarat tradition to provide a game history which tracks the results of all the games that have been played in a specific shoe which will generally contain between six and eight card decks. Some players believe that this helps them to increase their chances of making the correct bet, though in reality they are attempting to predict a process which, like the flip of our coin, is entirely random.
